Your Thoughts???

Since I started the blog last May/June, I have been gathering information on venues throughout Slidell as well as New Orleans and the Gulf Coast for the upcoming reunion.

Slidell was already limited to such places prior to Katrina and places are even more limited since the storm. And I am sticker shocked for what they have to offer in Slidell.

What are your thoughts about having the reunion on the Gulf Coast? (Gulfport/Biloxi area)
We could get more for our money!!
Most of you will be coming from out of town........Biloxi has an airport (flights there use to be cheaper than N.O.???). A lot of casinos and hotels have reopened. It is just a 40 - 45 minute drive to/from Slidell. There is a water park off of Hwy 49 as well as outlet mall shopping.

Please send your thoughts to nhsclassof87reunion@yahoo.com by Jan. 19th. A simple yes or no will let us know where we should go. We'll be trying to plan a meeting soon.

Dang it - wish we would have thought of that. Sounds like a good plan but what do you all care what a Tiger thinks :)

This is what I wrote and somehow deleted it.......

A date has not bee set as of today. THe date will depend on place and availability of that place. At our one and only last meeting, sometime in June was mentioned.

So far, no one minds the coast. One had concerns for those wanting to tour NHS after 20 years. Purhaps a bus could be provided for those without a car wanting to take a tour????? The drive is an easy 40-45 min one to and from.

Does anyone have a house/yard big enough for an event like this? And, then just have it catered.

I kind of thought of something maybe with a/c for the actual Sat. night function. Maybe for a picnic a yard would be nice??

So is that a yes or no for the coast????

I have a yard big enough. I'd love to host a back yard get together and, we're close enough to the school that tours could be set up for that evening/afternoon. Of course, I haven't mentioned this to Doug yet - but I always get what I want - so Let's Have a Party!

Hey,

I like the idea of meeting in a place that will accomodate all of our traveling alumni but my personal preference would be New Orleans rather than the Gulf Coast...the gospel brunch at the House of Blues at our 10 year reunion is still something I tell friends about!

Hey anonymous! THank you for your imput about N.O. I had thought of that as well......even checked into a Riverboat Cruise on the Mississippi River for the actual reunion event. A little more $$$$ than Slidell or the coast, but included a great buffet and jazz band or DJ. I guess we don't have to rule N.O. out. I would still love to take the riverboat cruise. I have been on one and it makes for an incredible evening. I am also willing to pay more for a nice place!!! However, I do not have to travel far. Sure I would get a room if it were outside of Slidell, but I don't have to spend money on airfare.

To address a few other concerns and to give y'all a little more to ponder.

Where ever the reunion takes place. I believe our plan is to contact hotels to make arrangement on prices. I could be wrong, but I also think that the majority of you DO NOT have ties to or family living in Slidell anymore?????? And hotels will be a must.

My big concern is that those classmates are going to be spending a lot of money to travel to Slidell for a reunion to possibly show up at venue that is way over priced for the town and/or in desperate need of a renovation. Not to mention the hotel/motel they will have to sleep in....they will enter the room from the parking lot for near the same price as they could stay at a hotel/resort on the coast or in New Orleans. Here are a few options for the coast. Check them out.... www.islandviewcasino.com or www.beaurivage.com THose are just two that the coast has to offer.

As soon as we have a date, place, hotel info etc..... we will let you know. Your comments are appreciated and are being compiled for committee review. EAch and every concern will be addressed. Keep sending them in!!!

New Orleans sounds better to us, my husband still has bus. meetings there, it would give us the chance to visit with friends and family that we haven't seen in a while. Either way we'll have to travel(drive), our son is 3yrs, and will be staying w/grandparents. N.O. is still close enough to Slidell, if people wanted to see NHS... just my thoughts on the location issue...Slidell still seems the safest place though...

Rami,
We use the Renaissance Hotel for alot of functions for work. The rooms are really nice and the hotel is beautiful. Could be pricey, but I can call and see what kind of rate we could get?
